Winter Reading Challenge

The Winter Reading Challenge has been posted over at my other blog (which you should read, anyway, because it's got much more interesting stuff than I ever post here ).

I would love to have you all join me in some intentional reading.  I really like to see other peoples' book lists, and I really like pictures of stacks of books.  They give me all sorts of new ideas.

So please, come join the fun!

Is your profile pic from The Prestige?

Intentional reading...hmm...I have some books on my shelf with good intentions.

Joan Didion's  A Year of Magical Thinking

Carolly Erickson's novel about Josephine

Susan Wise Bauer's History of the World

And more!

No, it's from The Illusionist, a much better movie than The Prestige, in my opinion! (Not that I didn't like The Prestige, I just like the other much better).

SWB's history book!  Yes!  I need to put that on my list, too.  I actually bought it a while ago, and I was just thinking that I needed something historical on the list.  Thanks for the reminder!

Well, let's see the rest of your list !

I read your comment over on Esher mom. We had a calendar of daily readings that we did with Fraser and Claire as they grew up,  I had  an Advent wreath as well.. For us that was a step forward from the little calendars that have a window for each day. It was only a sentimental observance though about Jesus being born The full signifigance of Advent is new to our experience as well.  Fraser was about Connor's age when we started observing it as part of the church calendar. Just this moring I  was thnking we started this a little late, I was thinking of the things Sandy does because her children are younger. And also of all the fun things Nancy Wilson does for her grandchildren. But then I realized it's not a children's observance. It's a church observance. Each year it takes on more meaning so that as adults it's a very blessed tradition to have. It will look different in each family depending on the age of their children,  We're transitioning this year to an adult observance. The calendar is put away and the Book of Common Prayer replaced it. So  I'd say it's never too late to start. Just start where you're at and go from there. And then when we  have grandchildren we can incorporate age appropriate things to give them an understanding of the season.

An intentional  reading list. Maybe I will pull out those books I bought at Trinity Festival in August. I'll go post that now.
